Regional High School Computer Competition (HSCC)
2010 Season Underway for Defending Regional Champions

Washington, D.C. - BDPA members and other industry professionals (left photo) trek to Las Vegas for the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) January 7-10. The 2010 International CES launched our next decade of Tech Sector innovation.
BDPA's local High School Computer Competition (HSCC) Season is underway. Last year, the Oracle Foundation (right photo) donated $50,000 in 2009 to qualified BDPA student members. Francisco Nunez (L) and TurKenya Herring (R) are BDPA's Washington, D.C. Chapter 2009 Oracle Scholars. Each will be graduating seniors in 2010 and currently serve as the Region's HSCC team co-captains.
Annual dues for student memberships in BDPA are $25.00. Parents, teachers, and students may select here to join or start local BDPA Chapters, participate in other available scholarship programs, apply for internships, and learn more about exciting STEM (Science.Technology.Engineering.Math) career opportunities in our region.

(Left photo) The Defense Department's (DoD) High Performance Computing Modernization Program office (HPCMP) created the Joint Educational Opportunities for Minorities (JEOM) program for students from underrepresented groups, who are pursuing studies in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The goal of this program is two-fold: 1) ensure a competitive and diverse workforce within the DoD by offering training, mentorship, and career development for undergraduate students in STEM disciplines and 2) to provide opportunities for students who have an interest in computational science and high performance computing challenges important to DoD. Exhibiting this year with DoD during the 2010 BEYA STEM Conference last month in Baltimore were Ms. Pamela Gilliam (left [BDPA-DC]) and Ms. Deborah Schwartz (right). Ms. Gilliam and Ms. Schwartz support and manage HPCMP's Oversight & Outreach Program respectively, and strongly encourage BDPA HSCC Alumni Students,
BDPA Student Members and other qualified students to apply prior to their March 22, 2010 suspense date. (Right photo) Area students visit one of the U.S. Navy's exhibits to play video games (Guitar Hero shown above), a variety of war games, robotics, and flight simulators.
